On May 2nd 2018, the Honourable Minister Japhen Mwakalombe, and local MP, came to Shiyala village for the official inauguration of the primary school, built by Mothers of Africa.
In the above photo, Mr Mwakalombe took time to give special thanks to the six volunteer Shiyala teachers and encouraging each one to complete their qualifications in order to move forward in their careers. Also pictured are: Professor Judith Hall, founder of Mothers of Africa; Dr Job Mwanza, MoA Zambian partner, and Chongwe District Medical Officer; and Paul Crompton, official MoA photographer.
During this visit, the Mothers of Africa team and the enthusiastic teaching staff also ran a successful, three-day arts and crafts vacation school for over 40 pupils aged from 5 to 17. The children enjoyed the opportunity to express their creativity and originality.
Mothers of Africa completed the three school buildings in August 2017 and has since provided desks, blackboards, a complete set of text books for Grades 1 to 9, school stationery and sports equipment for volleyball, netball, football, badminton and table tennis.
